  • BARRIO: Sagrada Family: Beyond the limit of the Dreta de l’Eixample, in the upper part, is the Sagrada Família neighborhood, which was previously known as the Poblet. The Poblet was a neighborhood that for many years had been reduced to fields with a small core of low houses located around the current street of Valencia. He did not have a certain entity until the first years of the twentieth century, as a working-class neighborhood around many industries. What gives personality today is the temple of the Sagrada Família. It was commissioned as an expiatory temple and was projected in 1881 on some land in the Sant Martí area, when everything around it was countryside. The project was initially assigned to the architect Francesc de Paula Villar and was followed by a young architect, then little known, named Antoni Gaudí, who took over the works when the neo-Gothic style crypt was just beginning to be built. Currently, the temple is Gaudí's best known work in the world and the place most visited by tourists in the city.
